Students Embrace Global Opportunities via the Clough Center


January and February were busy months for Boston Latin School global programming:

• Nineteen students were accepted into the CIEE Global Navigator summer program. Many received substantial scholarships from CIEE and the Clough Center for Global Understanding.

• Exchange students from Beijing arrived at BLS on January 27 for a 2.5 week stay. Twenty six BLS students hosted the exchange students in their homes and classes during the program and the students attended classes daily. BLS host students will travel to Beijing in April.

• The French program hosted 10 exchange students from Grenoble in February. They stayed with BLS students and attended classes with their partners.

• The annual Facing History trip to Eastern Europe, now in its 18th year, took 53 students, faculty, and staff to Germany, Poland, and the Czech Republic during February break to visit historic sites connected to the Holocaust and World War II, the Cold War, and post-Berlin Wall Europe that they study in the Facing History course.

• Classics students and teachers visited Italy and Greece over the February break to see many of the sites that they have learned about in their classes up close and in person.

• Over 40 students traveled to Kenya over February break to participate in a service learning program. The students visited several villages where they engaged in service projects and experienced a Kenyan safari.

• Finally, Spanish students will embark on a service learning trip to the Dominican Republic in April with their teachers.
