Winter Sports Team Season Highlights


The success of the BLS teams during the regular season has extended into the postseason with several of our teams advancing farther than they have in recent history. Here are some of those highlights in addition to recaps of all of the winter sports.

• Basketball – Boys
Boys Basketball started the postseason with a dramatic 46-44 victory over Haverhill in the opening round. The season concluded with a loss to Andover. That said, the team finished with a 15-7 overall record, a league championship, and hosted two playoff games for the first time in over a decade.

• Basketball - Girls
Girls Basketball competed hard this season. Highlights include winning a game in the Winchester Christmas Tournament and freshman Emelia O’Gilvie being named a league all-star.

• Fencing
The BLS girls squad won their 3rd consecutive State Championship. Boys finished 4th overall at State Championships. The Girls Foil Squad won Gold and Boys Saber and Girls Epee took Silver at Squad Championships.

• Hockey – Boys
The Wolfpack defeated Somerville (4-1), Stoneham (3-1), and Triton (8-3) on its way to the Division 2 North Championship game, but fell short to Tewksbury (4-6) in the D2 North final.

• Hockey – Girls
Girls Hockey won their preliminary round playoff game 3-0 over Waltham. The season concluded with an overtime loss to Braintree in an exciting game. The team finished with an overall record of 15-4-4, a league championship, a league MVP, and several league all- stars.

• Indoor Track
The Girls 4x800 (Lucy Abdow, Sophie Ahearn, Julie Tassinari, and Annie Jackson) won the All-State Championship, finished 2nd at the New England Championships, and qualified for Nationals, finishing 21st at the New Balance Nationals. Congrats to 8th graders Dennis Satchek (13th) and David Rivkin (15th) who also competed in the 1 Mile run, Boys Junior HS division at Nationals.

• Swimming – Boys
David Qian took 5th in the 200 IM and 7th in the 100 Breaststroke at North Sectionals and qualified for State Championships.

• Winter Cheerleading
The Cheer team concluded its season with an impressive 4th place finish at the Regional Competition.

• Wrestling
Wrestling concluded its season with Olamide Adeyeri and Paul Curran competing at All-States. Adeyeri was named an alternate for New England.
