MLK Art & Essay Contest



Art Contest Criteria Theme:
“Youth Dreams: Visions for our Future”
Black and white or color drawing, painting, sketch, charcoal, digital media, or other appropriate media capturing the theme of young people making an impact on the future of our world. Format: 8 1/2 x 11 paper, suitable for use in program, to be projected at event, posted on display boards; include full name and homeroom on the back of the paper. Due Monday, January 6, 2020, at 2:30 p.m.

Turn in hard copy of artwork to Ms. Pinchem, Mr. Kennelly, or your art teacher. We may request an electronic version at a later date.

​​​​​​​Winning artwork will be featured in the MLK assembly program with a monetary prize ($100) and potentially used as templates for murals to be created and displayed at BLS; the winner will also be invited to the Boston MLK Breakfast on Monday, January 21.

Essay Contest Criteria
Topic: "What world do you wish to see in 20 years, and what will your role in that world be?"
Format: Times New Roman, 12 pt, double spaced, 300-400 words (name and homeroom at top) Essay should respond to the prompt, but there is flexibility to focus on one specific issue that affects our world or to approach the response more broadly. Turn in to Ms. Pinchem, Mr. Kennelly, or email to blsmlkcelebration@gmail.com by Monday, January 6, at 2:30 p.m.

An excerpt of the winning essay will shared at the school-wide MLK assemblies on January 17. Prizes: $100, invitation to Boston MLK Breakfast on Monday, January 21.
